Skinner plans on giving Clarke her vote on Nov. 8

Letter to the editor

— To the editor:

I believe that Tom Clarke is the best candidate for town of Cazenovia supervisor because he has the necessary skills, experience, knowledge and time to serve the community well. Tom will strengthen Cazenovia’s representation on the Madison County Board of Supervisors.

This is what Tom will bring to the supervisor’s position:

  • Municipal government experience: For over 13 years, Tom was village trustee, deputy mayor and mayor. Tom learned a lot about planning, municipal operations and managing personnel.

  • County experience: Tom was chief operator of the town’s sewage treatment facility and County Department Head for 27 years. As a department head, Tom brought proposals before county committees and the County Board of Supervisors for approval. Tom fully understands county procedures.

  • Community involvement: Tom has been a member of the Cazenovia Fire Department, Cazenovia Lake Association Board, Cazenovia Area Community Development Association, the Cazenovia Area Planning Project and others. He is currently Vice President of CazCares.

  • Grant experience: In difficult economic times, understanding the grant process is critical. Tom secured a $650,000 dollar grant to build a composting facility at our sewer treatment plant.

  • Budgets: Tom has years of experience in preparing and understanding municipal budgets. He intends to be actively involved in the budget process from start to finish.

  • Infrastructure knowledge: Tom has over 30 years of direct experience in infrastructure issues. If our community is to grow sensibly, its infrastructure will be a key component.

  • Time: Tom is retired. He can devote as much time as needed to fulfilling the obligations and responsibilities of the position.

  • Accessibility: Tom will schedule office hours and will be hands on and actively involved in all town activities.

  • Sound decision making: Tom has no personal agenda and will study all issues objectively. He will do his best to provide an open government where decisions are made together with the Town Board members in open meetings. Tom will solicit community input and use the remarkable talents of our community residents.

  • Managed growth: Tom will bring the concept of managed growth, which understands the need for change but respects and protects our beautiful natural resources such as Cazenovia Lake and Chittenango Creek and important open spaces while also encouraging and providing a healthy, vibrant retail and commercial environment. The two can coexist.

  • Cooperation: Tom understands the need for cooperation among the Village and neighboring townships. Boundaries should be invisible when one municipality calls on another for assistance.

But, most importantly, Tom will bring a total commitment to all of Cazenovia — a community he loves and care deeply about. It is his home.
