Highland Forest in Fabius will once again be the setting for area snowshoe racers to gather on Feb 12.
This year’s race will be a qualifier for the United States Snowshoe Association National Championship, to be held Feb. 25 in Frisco, Colo.
The local competition will determine the top junior and senior racers, over a 5K and 10K course. Additionally, there will be a citizen’s race/walk on the 5K course.
Onondaga County’s Highland Forest was the setting for the 2010 National Championship, during which a record-breaking number of racers from all parts of the USA and Canada participated.
While the hill challenge is well remembered by past racers, this course will be more user-friendly and the event will be a trail run if the snow conditions warrant, still counting as a National qualifier.
Racing snowshoes will be available to rent. To learn more about other local and national races, visit the USSSA website, snowshoeracing.com.
