A great year for cheer

While Pop Warner Football came to a close — all three teams owe a debt of gratitude to the spirit and enthusiasm of their cheerleading squads. 2012 has been a banner year for Cazenovia Pop Warner cheerleading, with a total of 50 girls participating among the Mitey Mite, Junior Pee Wee (C) and Pee Wee (B) teams.

Besides engaging the crowd, encouraging the action on the field and even “taking a knee” for every injured player in every game, the cheerleaders also have the opportunity to strut their stuff in competition every year.

The 2012 Tri-Valley Cheer and Dance Competition was held on Sept. 29 in Utica, and the Laker Cheerleaders performed at their peak. The entire Mitey Mite Squad received medals of participation, the C-Team squad placed fourth and the B-Team squad placed first.

Both the C and B squads went on to compete in the NY State Competition held on Oct. 14 at the War Memorial in Syracuse.
