‘Dead Divas’ coming To Caz with Siobhan Fallon Hogan as host

Event to fund Brian R. Gara Memorial Hockey Scholarship

— Catherine Cummings Theater will present “Dead Divas,” a tribute to the legendary ladies of song from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday, June 26, featuring local talent covering favorites from Janis Joplin, Eva Cassidy, Billie Holliday, Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline, Donna Summer and more. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Brian R. Gara Memorial Hockey Scholarship, a monetary award presented annually to a graduating Cazenovia Varsity hockey player

“The idea to do a concert centering on great female vocalists who have passed away was tossed around by my friend Robin Gara and I a few years ago,” said Colleen Prossner, theater operations manager at the Catherine Cummings Theater. “It didn’t really come to fruition until a couple of months ago when we decided to make it happen. We wanted to create a great night … a celebration of song and dance with live music and comedy as a way to honor Brian’s memory. We reached out to actress/ comedian Siobhan Fallon Hogan, who grew up in Cazenovia, to emcee the event and are thrilled that she is able to join us on stage.”

The two-hour show will feature area singers and musicians including Brian’s own children, nieces from Rochester and friends from Cazenovia. Brian is remembered for his love of music, dedication to his family and community and coaching.

A $20 donation is suggested. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 655-STAR, at Cazenovia Jewelry on Albany Street and at the door.

Gara (1964-2013) was a 1982 graduate of Cazenovia High School and captained the ice hockey team that claimed Cazenovia's first sectional title. His passion for hockey led him into a remarkable coaching career including programs such as Cazenovia Youth Hockey, Center State and the Syracuse Stars, winning three state titles.

Event proceeds for the Brian R. Gara Memorial Hockey Scholarship will be given to a graduating Cazenovia Varsity hockey player who exemplifies the qualities that Brian promoted: a sense of humor, passion for hockey and commitment to school and community.

The Catherine Cummings Theater is located on 16 Lincklaen St., Cazenovia. For more information, contact Colleen Prossner, cprossner@cazenovia.edu.
